It’s that time of the year again. Cold and flu season are approaching, so we have to start preparing our children now! I’ve spent so much money on co-pays at the doctor’s with my kids over the years that I should have a stake in the company. That’s why this year I started taking precautions early, and I’ll share with you my winter essentials must haves for kids

Winter Essentials
1. Elderberry
*Be sure to check age requirements and dosage*
Aka the purple magic potion. I had a few nurse and mommy friends recommend this stuff and I’ll pretty much take any advice from a nurse. I have been giving this to my kids for a few weeks now and so far we have avoided any illnesses. Now, if you have kids in daycare you know that they bring home EVERYTHING that someone else has, so I am trying to prevent missing any more time from work by being ahead of the game and building their immune systems. Plus, we have a trip coming up in February (peek sick season) and I want to make sure they’re immune systems are strong! I have started taking an adult brand as well! Bonus: It tastes pretty good, too! Even the kids love it!
This is the adult version my husband and I take:
2. Zarbees Cough Syrup
*Be sure to check age requirements and dosage*
I highly recommend having this on hand! When I first asked mommy groups what they recommended for a child’s cough they all swore by this. Of course, I thought it was all BS at first (I mean, can anything really stop a cough?!) but I was wrong. We give this to our kids whenever they have a nasty cough and it definitely helps, especially at night.
3. Nose Freida
This thing literally makes me want to gag when I think about it, but it is genius. I wish I had thought of this. I could be sitting on an island somewhere thinking about all of the snot parents are getting out of their children’s noses while I was sipping on a pina colada. It is an absolute must have for small children with stuffy noses who cannot blow on their own. All you have to do is stick the blue tube right at the tip of their nostrils and suck the snot out of their nose. Not disgusting at all, right? No worries, there is a mesh stopper at the top of the tube to prevent you from getting anything in your mouth. Be sure to change that mesh stopper frequently. You can buy refills at any drug store or Amazon.
4. Sheep Hat
Because…have you seen anything cuter? This winter hat is AMAZING! Not only does it prevent your child from being able to rip it off, but it also keeps their entire necks warm. No need to struggle with scarves or hats that keep falling off. But also…how cute do my kids look in these hats? These would also make perfect gifts for your son, daughter, niece, or nephew!
5. Beautycounter’s Baby Balm
An absolute must have for all families! It’s the perfect size to throw in your purse or keep in your diaper bag. This multi-purpose baby balm can be used for dry skin, diaper rash, burns, sunburn soother, cradle cap, eczema, and the list goes on. Bonus: It’s a much safer choice than most baby products sold in stores today. Because the cosmetic industry has such loose regulations, or is barely regulated at all, companies can put almost anything in their products. Always check your ingredient labels and make sure you know what you’re putting on yours and your children’s bodies!
I hope that you find some of these items helpful and that your babies stay safe and healthy this winter season!
